Pearl Jam took the music world by storm in 1991 with the release of their debut album Ten. Along with Nirvana, the band was a key member of the Grunge movement of the early nineties, a musical genre so new and unique that the music industry didn’t know how to define it. This might explain why, in 1993, the band won the American Music Awards as the Favorite New Artist in both the Pop/Rock AND the Metal/Hard Rock categories. This is the Favorite New Artist: Pop/Rock statue awarded to Pearl Jam at the AMA’s that year. The award is a pyramid-shaped crystal statue, measuring 4.5" x 14.25" x 4.5". Bottom of crystal is inscribed with “American Music Award” in gold lettering. Pyramid stands on a dark base, fronted by a Gold plaque which reads “”Favorite New Artist * Pop/Rock * Pearl Jam * 1993”. This award comes from the personal collection of former drummer Dave Abbruzzese (who is seen in the video on our web site accepting the award for the band). Award is in excellent condition, showing very little wear.
