Honus Wagner was baseball’s greatest ever player before Babe Ruth stepped onto the scene. Wagner was a hard hitting, slick fielding shortstop for the Louisville Colonels and Pittsburgh Pirates who’s on-field duels with Ty Cobb are the stuff of legend. The two best players of their era, Cobb and Wagner constantly fought for batting titles and championships.

Wagner finished his career with 3,420 hits and an excellent .328 batting average. He considered such a great player that he was included in the Baseball Hall of Fame’s inaugural class of 1936.

The item offered here is a 4 x 3 inch cut signed and inscribed by Wagner. He signed the card “J. Honus Wagner” and added the inscription “Pirates 44.” From 1933 to 1952, Wagner worked for the Pirates as a hitting instructor. He dated this card October 23, 1944. The inscriptions and signature were written in black pen. This item has been encapsulated by PSA/DNA (83943174).
