Over the last 17 seasons, when the New York Yankees are holding a small lead in the 9th inning, the door to the bullpen opens and in runs Mariano Rivera, the Yankees closer. Since acquiring the closer job from John Wetteland after the 1996 season, Rivera has accumulated saves at a rapid pace. When Rivera nailed down a Yankee victory against the visiting Tampa Bay Rays on September 21, 2011, he broke the All Time saves mark with his 603rd career save, a record previously held by Trevor Hoffman. (Please note this is save #603 which broke Rivera's own record. It was not used for 602 )This is the home plate Rivera warmed up to in the Yankee bullpen, pulled out of the ground and preserved for your collection. An impressive 19.5” x 19.5” x 3.5” deep (including the “black”), the home plate has been inscribed and signed by Rivera: “Mariano Rivera #42 Game Used Save #603 9-21-11 All-Time Saves Leader Enter Sandman.” This extremely unique item comes with an LOA from Steiner Collectibles who partners with the Yankees to provide quality game used memorabilia.
