Hollywood legend Gary Cooper was supposed to be the star of 1942’s “Pride of the Yankees”, but the real scene-stealer was Babe Ruth.
Playing himself in Lou Gehrig biopic, The Babe quickly became the star of the production and even the biggest Tinseltown names found themselves under the magical spell of The Babe. The negative shows a gleeful Babe Ruth clowning with Gary Cooper on a bicycle somewhere on the RKO back lot. The bicycle has a sign reading “G. Cooper” on it and Cooper himself is perched on the handlebars, clinging for dear life. If The Babe rode a bike like he did his automobiles, Cooper needed to be worried! The negative is in great shape and is stored in a translucent negative holder. A playful image taken during the making of one of the most-loved baseball movies of all-time.
This is a rare, original, 8x10 studio negative.
