The Hall of Fame center Kareem Abdul-Jabbar was presented with this Man of the Year award by Sport Magazine in 1971. Abdul-Jabbar, then with the Milwaukee Bucks, was the NBA’s leading scorer in both the 1970-71 and 1971-72 seasons, averaging 31.7 and 34.8 points in those two seasons. Abdul-Jabbar won the NBA MVP in both seasons and was named the 1971 NBA Finals MVP after leading the Bucks to a sweep of the Washington Bullets in the NBA Finals. Abdul-Jabbar played until 1989, retiring as the NBA’s all-time leading scorer and earning a spot in Springfield in 1995.

This offered 1971 Sport Magazine Man of the Year award is a 15 x 12-inch wooden plaque with two gold-colored eagle statuettes mounted on the front. A placard on this award reads “Sport Magazine / Man of the Year / 1971 / Kareem Jabbar”. This award comes with a LOA personally hand-signed by Kareem Abdul-Jabbar.
