Holiday Auction Closing December 7 ,2019
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 12/7/2019
Presented is a lot of two Louisville Slugger P72 sample bats, one produced for former New York Yankees shortstop Derek Jeter and the other for Baseball Hall of Famer Cal Ripken Jr. The P72 has been one of the more popular models with Major League Baseball players since its creation for former minor league baseball player Leslie Pinkham in 1954. The bat has been swung by Hall of Famers Cal Ripken Jr. and Robin Yount, among others, as well as Derek Jeter. At the end of the 2014 MLB season, Louisville Slugger retired the P72 in honor of Jeter. The specifications of the P72, with its medium barrel and balanced swing weight, still exist for players to order, but under a new model name, the DJ2 in recognition of Jeter.
The first item in this lot is a Cal Ripken Jr. Louisville Slugger P72 model bat, in dark brown wood with black engraving. The second item in this lot is a Derek Jeter Louisville Slugger P72 model bat in black wood with silver engraving. Opposite the Jeter reproduction signature on the barrel of the bat is the “TPX” logo and the Major League Baseball “swingman” logo engraved in silver.
