The 1975 motion picture, “Jaws”, was a turning point in American pop culture. The thriller directed by Steven Spielberg and based on Peter Benchley's 1974 novel of the same name tells the story of a giant man-eating great white shark attacking beachgoers at a New England summer resort town, prompting the town’s police chief Martin Brody (played by Roy Scheider) to hunt it with the help of a marine biologist (played by Richard Dreyfuss) and a professional shark hunter (played by Robert Shaw). Considered one of the greatest films ever made, “Jaws” was the prototypical summer blockbuster, regarded as a watershed moment in motion picture history, and it won several awards for its music and editing. It was the biggest box-office hit of 1975 and was the highest grossing film of all time up to the arrival of “Star Wars” in 1977.
