Hall of Famer Willie McCovey finished his career with 555 home runs en route to his enshrinement into Cooperstown. On September 8, 1977, McCovey hit a two-run home run off Cincinnati Reds pitcher Paul Moskau in the top of the first inning as the Giants fell to the Reds 6-5 at Riverfront Stadium. Offered is this Official Charles S. Feeney National League baseball hit for this home run that has been signed by McCovey on the sweet spot. There are two inscriptions on this ball. On the side pane is “490” in bid red pen” The other inscription reads “9-8-77” Willie’s 490th Career Homer vs Cincinnati and Paul Moskau”. According to the game experts at MEARS, this ball was collected by former catcher Mike Sadek, who was in the Giants’ bullpen beyond the left field fence and retrieved it when McCovey hit his home run. Sadek inscribed the ball with the home run details and had McCovey sign the sweet spot. This ball comes with a LOA from MEARS (314906) for the game use, tying this ball to McCovey’s 490th home run. There is a letter of provenance signed by Mike Sadek and Mike Sadek, Jr. dated June 11th, 1998 certifying that this was the ball hit by McCovey for his 490th career home run. McCovey’s signature comes with LOAs from PSA/DNA (AC00040) and JSA (Y91482).
