The composed center back Jose Nasazzi commanded the Uruguay defense during their triumph at the 1930 FIFA World Cup in Montevideo. Nasazzi, a two-time Olympic gold medalist, was retroactively named the Best Player of the Tournament by FIFA after Uruguay rolled through the tournament. The Bella Vista and Nacional player led Uruguay to four South American championships during his tenure with La Celeste, and alongside Obdulio Varela is widely regarded as one of the greatest players in Uruguay’s history.
This offered Jules Rimet Trophy, known as “Victory” when it was presented to Jose Nasazzi. This trophy measures 13.5 inches tall and stands on an octgonal green stone base. A gold plaque is affixed to the base. It is etched with “1er. Campeonato Mundial de Foot-Ball”, “Jose Nasazzi”, and “A.U. DE F. Montevideo Julio 1930”. “FIFA” is etched on the trophy as well. The upper portion of the trophy is a gold-colored depiction of the Greek goddess Nike. This trophy is in fantastic condition and is a tremendous relic from Uruguay’s World Cup. This item comes with a LOA confirming it is part of the Rony Almeida Soccer Collection.
