Patrick Ewing was simply the most dominant college player of his generation. The seven-foot center and his Georgetown Hoyas appeared in three NCAA finals during his four years and won the National Championship in 1984. Only defeats to a star-laden North Carolina team of 1982 which featured stars like Michael Jordan and James Worthy and the gritty Villanova team of 1985 prevented Ewing and Georgetown from a championship run unseen since the UCLA teams under John Wooden.

Coinciding with Patrick Ewing’s dominance in 1985 was the NBA’s decision to go to a draft lottery for teams not making the playoffs, instead of the combination of territorial picks, reverse record order and even a coin flip in some cases. Ewing became the “prize” for the first ever NBA Draft lottery and winning the draft lottery was the New York Knicks, who took Ewing with the first overall selection. Including Ewing, the 1985 draft saw five future Hall of Famers drafted with Chris Mullin, Karl Malone, Joe Dumars and Arvydas Sabonis all selected.

Offered here is an early-career late 1980’s New York Knicks home jersey worn by Patrick Ewing. This MacGregor Sand-Knit white mesh jersey features “NEW YORK” and Ewing’s number “33” sewn on in orange and blue tackle twill on the front. A “Designed & Tailored Exclusively for the New York Knicks” and “Sand-Knit 46 tags, along with a “6”LB” tag are sewn on the front left tail. The back has “EWING” sewn on in blue tackle twill and his number “33” sewn on in orange and blue tackle twill. A Gerry Cosby tag is also sewn on the inside back collar. The NBA logo is embroidered on the upper left chest and Ewing has signed this jersey vertically in black marker on the left “3” on the front. This jersey displays light wear with evidence of laundering, along with staining throughout which is consistent for a jersey that has been worn a few times. The manufacture tags show puckering from repeated laundering and jersey is original with no alterations. This comes with a LOA from Sports Investors Authentication (200613E1) for the game use and a LOA from JSA for the signature.
