Spectacular jersey from the kid who brought joy back to Shea Stadium.
Joining the team in late July of 2004, rookie David Wright became the living embodiment of Tug McGraw’s famous battle cry of “Ya Gotta Believe!” Batting .293 with 14 homers in just 69 games, Wright earned himself a starting third base spot and This Year in Baseball’s Rookie of the Year Award. The gray road jersey has “NEW YORK” proudly emblazoned across the chest in stunning orange, blue and black tackle twill. Wright’s number sits below on the right front in the same colors.
The jersey is trimmed in blue piping and a Velco patch is sewn inside the front placket between the 2nd and 3rd buttons. The left sleeve sports the 40th Anniversary of Shea Stadium patch and the Tug McGraw “Ya Gotta Believe” memorial quote. The right sleeve has the traditional Mets logo patch around which is “BOB MURPHY” in tribute to the long time Mets announcer.
