Absolutely striking matted and framed panoramic print of the Kansas City Monarchs and Hilldale Daisies before the start of the 1924 Colored World Series. The photograph of this historic event has been professionally matted and framed and signed by over 180 former Negro League ballplayers. This is a veritable who’s who of the Negro League history and includes 4 Hall of Famers: Larry Doby, Monte Irvin, Buck Leonard and Leon Day. Other stand outs include Buck O’Neill, Artie Wilson, Andy Porter, “Wild Bill” Wright, Josh Johnson, Max Manning, “Lefty” Mathis, Art “Superman”Pennington, Edsall Walker, Ted Rasberry, Charlie Biot, “Double Duty” Radcliffe, Emilio Navarro, Josh Gibson, Jr., “Bee Bop” Gordon, Bill “Ready” Cash, Bobby Robinson, “Lefty”Lamarque, Connie Johnson, “Slick” Surratt, Armando Vazquez, Sam Jethroe, Frank Duncan, Joe Black, Garnett Blair “Pee Wee” Jenkins and the two women who played in the Negro Leagues, Mamie “Peanut” Johnson and Toni Stone. Most of the players on this piece are no longer with us and this is a particularly attractive gathering of the men who played baseball before integration in 1947. The signatures completely and evenly fill the matte surrounding the photograph and are in a pleasing variety of markers and felt-tip pens. The black frame is solid but has lost parts of the lamination especially on the bottom portion of the frame, giving it a “rustic” look. Comes with full LOA from PSA/DNA. Multiple images and LOA available at goldinauctions.com. Framed to a dimension of 15 x 44 inches.
