Offered is a very scarce 2001 game worn jersey with the 9/11 flag patch, applied and used for a brief time after the terrorist attacks on New York, Washington, DC and Pennsylvania. Billy Koch enjoyed a productive six-year career as a right-handed reliever in the Big Leagues, beginning his career with the Toronto Blue Jays. He had a breakout season with Toronto in 2000, going 9-3 with a 2.63 ERA. Koch would win the Relief Man Award with Oakland in 2002.
This eye-catching, very colorful gray button-down game used Billy Koch Toronto Blue Jays road jersey features “TORONTO” across the chest, “KOCH” across the back and his number “44” on both sides all in red-and-blue on white tackle twill. The back collar features a special edition stitched American Flag patch, commemorating the 9/11 attacks. The blue sleeves, which help give this jersey tremendous eye appeal, feature a vibrant American League “100 SEASONS 1901 2001” patch on the left sleeve, and “25th SEASON A SUMMER TRADITION SINCE 1977” patch with two trademark Blue Jay logos on the right sleeve. The front tail of the jersey features a “Majestic Authentic Collection” patch with affixed size “52” tag indicating size. The inside collar of the jersey features a gray strip tag with black stitching that reads “44 01 S1,” indicating Koch’s number, and the jersey’s size and set. The jersey exhibits evidence of light game use and appears to be all original and unaltered. This is a very scarce jersey with the 9/11 Flag patch, applied and used for only a few shorts weeks after the terrorist attacks. It is also one of the most colorfully attractive jersey you will ever find. The jersey comes with an LOA from Dave Miedema, noted sports jersey expert.
