Offered is a very scarce 2001 game worn jersey with the 9/11 flag patch, applied and used for a brief time after the terrorist attacks on New York, Washington, DC and Pennsylvania. Ben Grieve wore this gray, button down 2001 Tampa Bay Devil Rays road jersey in his first season with the club, when he hit .264 with 11 home runs and 72 RBI. The team name “TAMPA BAY” appears across the chest and Grieve’s number “18” on the front and the reverse in green-and-white on purple tackle twill. His name “GRIEVE” appears across the back of the jersey in green stitching on a gray name plate. The back collar features a stitched American Flag patch, commemorating the 9/11 attacks, while the right sleeve has a vibrant American League “100 SEASONS 1901 2001” patch and the left sleeve sports a Devil Rays logo patch. The front tail of the jersey features a “Majestic Authentic Collection” patch with affixed white tags that read “2” EXTRA LENGTH” and “48,” indicating size modifications and the jersey’s size. The jersey exhibits evidence of light to moderate game use and appears to be all original and unaltered. This is a very scarce jersey with the 9/11 Flag patch, applied and used for only a few shorts weeks after the terrorist attacks. The jersey comes with an LOA from Dave Miedema, noted sports jersey expert.
