Jose Reyes was one of the most promising shortstop prospects in Major League Baseball when he made his debut in 2003, and the three-time All-Star and Silver Slugger award winner has lived up to the hype.
This white, button-down 2004 New York Mets game used home jersey was worn by Reyes in a 2004 season that saw him hit .255 and steal 19 bases in just 55 games with the Big League Club. “Mets” appears across the chest of the jersey with “REYES” across the back and his number “7” on both sides, all in blue-and-orange on black tackle twill. The jersey features a Mets logo patch on the left sleeve with “BOB MURPHY” stitched above, commemorating the team’s longtime broadcaster who died that year. On the right sleeve is a blue-and-orange Shea Stadium “40th ANNIVERSARY 1964-2004” patch with “Ya Gotta Believe” and “TUG” underneath, in honor of former Mets pitcher Tug McGraw, who also died that year. The inside front tail of the jersey features a “Majestic Authentic Collection” patch with affixed tags that read “44” and “set 1 2004,” indicating the jersey’s size and series. The back collar of the jersey features an official MLB logo patch. The jersey exhibits evidence of moderate game use, including dirt staining on the back right side, and appears to be all original. The jersey comes with an LOA from Dave Miedema, noted sports jersey expert.
