David Cone was a consistent winner who went on to win five World Series titles while being crowned the American League Cy Young with Kansas City in 1994.
This signed, gray pullover New York Mets road jersey comes from a 1988 season that saw David Cone post a 20-3 record and 2.22 ERA while logging eight complete games. The Mets advanced all the way to the NLCS that year, which is what this jersey was designed for. Cone’s signature appears in bold black marker on the back of the jersey with the inscription “88 EAST CHAMPS” below his name and number, referencing the Mets’ NL East division title. “NEW YORK” appears across the chest in blue-and-orange on white tackle twill, as does “CONE” and his number “44” across the back. The inner front tail features a “Rawlings” manufacturer’s tag with size “42.” Below is a gray strip tag that reads “P.O. 88 44 1” in blue stitching, indicating the jersey’s intention for playoff use, year, Cone’s number and the set. An affixed tag reads “SET 2 1988.” Cone’s signature comes with PSA/DNA certification number U77452. The jersey exhibits evidence of light game use and appears to be all original. The jersey comes with an LOA from Dave Miedema, noted sports jersey expert.
