Graded VG 3 by PSA, one of barely fifty copies, in total, validated by that company. Hall of Famer. John McGraw's overpowering character was unmatched during his era, but the legend's manner and presence created impressions that reverberate to this day. Want proof? An early MLB contest in April, 2021 between the Chicago White Sox and the woebegone Seattle Mariners resulted, naturally, in one team coughing up a sizable lead. Postmortem, one of the sportscasters, referring to the losing manager's lack of capable bullpen assets, commented, "John McGraw couldn't have won this game." Now, that's a lasting reputation! (McGraw's most recent appearance at the helm of a big-league nine happened at the inaugural 1933 All-Star Game.) The relic here offered represents an ideal remembrance of a (still) towering figure. The piece shows only mild-to-moderate signs of past circulation, and routine product staining is less pervasive than is often found in the issue. Very Good condition, highlighted by a commendably vivid likeness of its esteemed subject.
