Offered is the award presented to the late Hall of Famer Joe Sewell by the New York Baseball Writers Association honoring his 1,103 consecutive games played during his career. At the time of his streak, Sewell was second only to Everett Scott and was passed by the “Ironman” himself Lou Gehrig. This award, which is mounted on a 16 x 20 wood base, measures approximately 18 inches tall. The award features a life-sized bust of the great Lou Gehrig with his New York Yankees cap. There is a gold 4 x 8 inch plate on the base that reads:
“The Lou Gehrig Ironman Award
Presented To
Joseph W. Sewell
For Playing In 1,103 Consecutive Games
New York Baseball Writers Association”
The award is in good condition with the wood base having minor chipping on the corners and the gold plate showing rust spots. The award’s date has not been verified, but most likely occurred during the 1980s. Please note that due to the size and weight of this item, shipping costs may be higher than normal.
