Widely regarded as one of the best right handed hitters of all time, Rogers Hornsby hit over .400 three times, including the post dead ball single season record of .424 during the 1924 season. Of the scarce amount of single signed baseballs of The Rajah, a scant few are from his playing days, one of which is this tremendously eye appealing example.
This Spalding Official National League Heydler baseball has had one use during its lifetime – housing this bold, black fountain pen “Rogers Hornsby” signature. This ball contains vividly bold stampings, including a near perfect “John A. Heydler Pres’t National League” stamp, all framed by near perfect red and blue stitches, attesting this ball was signed during Hornsby’s Hall of Fame playing days. The consistent creamy yellow toned appearance is due to its nearly 110 year old age, and not any use, and is a true testament to its vintage appeal. While the signature grades minimally an (“8/10”) the stampings appear GEM MINT.
The term Triple Crown was created to reference a hitter leading his league in batting average, home runs and runs batted in, with Hornsby wining the Triple Crown twice! The Triple Crown in vintage single signed baseballs is one from the playing days, with a baseball in near perfect condition plus a bold signature. A third Triple Crown for Hornsby! This is a true relic from Hornsby’s playing days, and one of the best Rogers Hornsby single signed baseballs in existence. This baseball comes with a full LOA from PSA/DNA (81282569) which has graded the signature a 7, the baseball a 5, with an overall grade of 6.
