A five-time All-Star first baseman, including three times with the Mets, Keith Hernandez helped lead New York to a World Series title in 1986. Called the “Poster Boy” for what present-day Mets aspire to be by pitching great Ron Darling, Hernandez racked up plenty of awards during his days as a player. That includes this lot of four “Met of the Month” honors from the Daily News. Three of the awards (July 1985, August 1986 and one unidentifiable) depict renderings of Hernandez by the late legendary sports cartoonist Bill Gallo on a thin, grey 10x14 ½-inch stone-like surface on a 14x18-inch wood backdrop. The fourth is a 14 ¾ x14 ¾-inch framed drawing by Gallo that matches the aforementioned awards from August 1986. The group of awards makes for a great addition for any Hernandez, Mets or newspaper collector.
