Lot #12: Derek Jeter 1994 Pre-Rookie Louisville Slugger Game Used and Signed P72 Model Bat – PSA/DNA GU 9 (His First Bat Order as a Yankee)

Description

What is better than a rookie year Derek Jeter game used bat? How about a Jeter Pre-Rookie bat form one of his first ever orders as a member of the New York Yankees? This 33.5 inch, 30.7 ounce P72 model bat is unusually a flamed-burned finish bat, unlike his usual black finish models. Prior to the 1994 season, Jeter made the 40 man roster for the Yankees for this first time. Based upon factory ordering records, on March 2, 1994 Jeter ordered flame tempered bats in the length of 33.5 inches. This bat shows evidence of heavy game use, with a cracked handle and slight deadwood (grain swelling) on the back barrel. There are tremendous amounts of ball marks and stitch impressions over the entire barrel, and is the cause of the grain separation due to excessive ball contact. Cleat marks and blue bat rack streaks are also on the barrel, and a light coating of pine tar remains on the handle. The sweet spot area contains a blue Sharpie “Derek Jeter” signature, which contains some lightness. Outstanding example of a Pre-Rookie Jeter bat from the first order he ever made as a member of the New York Yankees major league roster. Full LOA from PSA/DNA, cert number 1B02429 for the bat – graded GU 9; Full LOA from PSA/DNA, cert number P14033 for the signature.
