Lot #7: 1914 Ty Cobb Signed First Edition "Busting 'Em" Hard Cover Book with Original Box Display (PSA/DNA)

Description

Ty Cobb was a combative superstar in the early days of baseball, earning scorn and praise alike for his take-no-prisoners approach to the game. What is beyond reproach, however, is his undeniable skill. Cobb was a maestro with a baseball bat, finishing his career with a Major League record .366 batting average. He played all but two of his 24 seasons with the Detroit Tigers. Cobb held the record for most career hits for multiple decades, until Pete Rose eclipsed his mark. Inducted into the Hall of Fame in 1936, Cobb was part of the first class of players inducted, which included his on-field nemesis Honus Wagner.

The item offered here is a first edition copy of Cobb’s 1914 book Busting ‘Em. The book is a chronicling of Cobb’s 1914 season, and includes many of Cobb’s thoughts on how the game should be played. Cobb signed the page opposite the title page of this hardcover book in black pen. The book comes encased in its original box display. This item has a PSA/DNA LOA (V12472).
