In what turned out to be the signature moment of his all-too-brief big league career, rookie outfielder Oscar Taveras brought Cardinals fans to their feet with a tremendous game tying, pinch hit home run off San Francisco Giants reliever Jean Machi in Game Two of the 2014 NLDS. Taveras also delivered a pinch-single in Game Four giving him a .667 batting average (2-3) in the series and a .429 career post-season mark, numbers that will forever be etched on the stat line of his lone big league season.

While Taveras tragic demise in a car accident at the end of the season brought an abrupt end to his career items like this St. Louis Cardinals post season road jersey serve to preserve the memory of this bright big league shooting star. This MLB Authentic/Majestic cream colored, button down mesh jersey contains the Cardinals “Redbirds” on-bat logo elaborately embroidered in thick red, gold and blue across the front above Taveras number 18 in red and navy tackle twill. Taveras name and number 18 are also on the back in the same fashion and an MLB Post Season 14 logo patch is on the right shoulder with a small red Majestic logo stitched onto the left sleeve and red piping running along the color and button lines. Tavares name is stitched in red cursive letters on the front right tail and the MLB Authentic/Majestic, size 46 manufacturer’s label is affixed to the left front tail with a “46 S2 2014” strip tag and Cool Base label at the seam. Taveras signed the 1 in his number 18 in bold black sharpie with a “2014” inscription. This lot is part of the Oscar Taveras collection and all consignor proceeds in excess of minimum bid will be donated directly to the Taveras family.
