By 1956, Stan Musial was operating like a well-oiled machine. Year after year his name appeared in the top slots of the National League batting leaders and he didn't look like he was slowing down anytime soon. His uncanny ability to consistently get on base led frustrated Brooklyn fans to call him simply "That Man" which quickly evolved to his nickname of "Stan The Man". Up to the 1956 season, Musial had hit his way to seven batting crowns and was voted the National League's MVP three times.

A model of relentless consistency, 1956 was no different for Stan and for the 13th straight year he made the All-Star team and led the National League with 105 RBI. Just about the only thing that was different about Stan Musial in 1956 was the uniform that he wore. That season the Cardinals deviated from their trademark "two birds on bat" jersey design and produced this one-year only version. The bat disappeared and a lone cardinal migrated to the left sleeve where he was modified to have a much fiercer look than the docile pair that previously perched on the fronts of the old jerseys. A refreshed script Cardinals" arches across the chest in red on navy felt. Rawlings size "44" tagging is sewn in the lower left front tail and "Musial 56" is chain stitched below in red. Washing instruction tagging is sewn inside the front tail with "SET 1 1956" flag tag affixed. The left sleeve features the new batting Cardinal patch. The back boasts Stan The Man's famous number "6" in bright red and navy felt. The jersey shows nice game use by Musial and there are no stains or tears present and all buttons are original. The embroidered Cardinals’ patch on the sleeve shows signs of fading and light staining. Altogether a great example of an impossible to find one-year only style Cardinals jersey worn by the team's greatest player, Stan The Man. This jersey comes with a Letter of Authenticity from MEARS (314809) who have graded this incredible baseball artifact A9.5.
