Tony Gwynn accumulated 3141 career hits, collecting his milestone 3000th hit on August 6, 1999. However, on his way to 3000 hits, Gwynn used a single bat for each hit up to that milestone, signing and inscribing each one with the career hit number. This 32.75 inch, 29.5 ounce Louisville Slugger B267 model bat is un-cracked and exhibits evidence of heavy use. Ball marks, stitch impressions and blue bat rack streaks are visible on the barrel. The lower handle and knob have been taped in a spiral pattern and there is a light coating of pine tar on the mid handle, both applied to enhance his grip. The length and weight (33-30-1/2) and model number (B267) are written on the knob in black marker, with his number “19” also on the knob and top of the barrel. On the sweet spot is a bold “Tony Gwynn” signature with “#2967” written below the barrel label. Full LOA from PSA/DNA GU-10, cert number 1B08396.
