This majestic Team Composite rendering exhibits nineteen portrait likenesses revealing individual members of the 1905 Detroit Tigers Base Ball Club. The 13" x 14" pieces from the W601 release were distributed – for ten cents per Composite – by Sporting Life, an American weekly newspaper that provided national coverage on sports (focusing on baseball and trap shooting). Sporting Life was a direct competitor to The Sporting News, and by 1890 it was one of the most widely circulated sporting or baseball newspapers in the country. The publication also released the M116 series of baseball cards in 1910-11, as well as the famous W600 Cabinet series of 1902-11. The Composite offered here is highlighted by Hall of Fame teammates Sam Crawford and Ty Cobb, the latter appearing in the big leagues for the first time – at the age of 18 years – in August of 1905. This nicely preserved paper heirloom concedes routine traces of mild toning, and presents with clean grandeur. Elegantly matted and framed.
