This is the rookie card of an esteemed Hall of Famer, released just prior to his two-year hitch in the Army: Ford would not return to baseball (or cardboard) until 1953. Whitey's 9-1 record, accomplished during his first season in 1950, merited the "Number 1 card" position of honor in Bowman's 1951 offering. That circumstance of placement also ensured a dearth of high grade examples for modern collectors seeking to fill sets.
