Though the start of his career seemed unspectacular, Max Scherzer came through in 2013 with 21 victories and a Cy Young award for the Detroit Tigers. Each Official Major League (Selig) ball is signed by the right-hander along with his number “37” and a small designation of its significance: one from his seventh straight win of the season (denoted “7-0”); one from his 15th win, July 27, 2013 (“15-1”); one from his 16th victory (marked “16-1”); and finally one inscribed “15 Ks” which is not dated but would appear to be from his victory over Pittsburgh on May 20, 2012. Each ball carries a hologram certifying authenticity.
