One of baseball’s ultimately unbreakable records, Nolan Ryan’s career mark of 5,714 strikeouts is nearly 1,000 ahead of second place Randy Johnson. On July 11th, 1985 at the Astrodome in Houston Ryan became the first pitcher in Major League history to amass 4,000 strikeouts getting New York Mets outfielder Danny Heep to chase after a breaking ball leading off in the top of the sixth inning. Ryan continued to strike out the side and recorded 11 Ks in seven innings of work as the Astros defeated the Mets 4-3. This Official Charles Feeney National League ball was used during Ryan’s history making game that day and is signed by Ryan on a side panel in black ball point ink with a “7/11/85” inscription. Ryan’s impeccable signature grades (“9-10”) and the rubbed down ball displays moderate game use although it does not appear to have been hit much if at all, it most likely just blew by one of Ryan’s strikeout victims and comes with PSA/DNA LOA certification #X00880 as well as Mears and JSA LOAs.
