Mariano Rivera had literally hundreds of New York Yankees teammates during his 19-year career in the Bronx but this set of three game used uniforms were worn by a select few who were with him on that fateful day when he suited up with the team for the last time on September 29, 2013. Rivera was not called upon to relieve (or play centerfield) in the Yankees 5-1 victory over the Houston Astros at Minute Maid Park. It was not a save situation when the teams were tied 1-1 entering the bottom of the ninth inning or when the Yankees were up 5-1 in the bottom of the 14th. Each one of the players who wore the three Yankees uniforms road gray uniforms presented here played and each made significant contributions to the team’s final win of the season in Rivera’s final game. Third baseman Eduardo Nunez had three hits, including two doubles with two RBI and two runs scored in seven at bats. Nunez size 48, number 26, button-down jersey (MLB authentic #EK809405) displays excellent evidence of game use with dirt and pine tar stains on the back. Likewise his size 35 (w) 40 (L) pants (EK809464) are covered with dirt and torn on the left rear side where he must have slid into second for one of his doubles. The left front knee also contains a heavy dirt stain. Nunez name number “26” and “35-40 35 OB ‘13” are embroidered on a strip tag on the interior waist band. Nunez size 7 1/8 Yankees Cap (EK 809483) has his number “26” inscribed on the inside in thick black marker and shows signs of excellent wear with a heavily sweat stained headband. First baseman Mark Reynolds hit his 21st and final home run of the season in the 14th inning it was also his final home run as Yankee. Reynolds size-48, number 39 jersey (EK809435) shows signs of moderate wear; size “38-50” pants (EK809457) are cuffed at the knee for Reynolds who liked to wear his socks high and also carry excellent evidence of game use with a variety of stains. Reynold size 7 3/8 Yankees cap (EK809495) has his number “39” inscribed in blue ball point pen on the inside and reveals only moderate use; he was with the team for only 36 games. Relief pitcher Matt Daley worked two scoreless innings with two strikeouts and was credited with the win. Daley’s size 46, number 40 jersey (EK809434) also displays moderate wear as do his size “34-37” pants (EK809476) which contain a strip tag reading “34-37 34 OB ’10” on the interior waist band and “40” “C” and “Daley” inscribed in black marker. Daley’s size 7 Yankees cap (EK809494) has his number “40” inscribed inside in black marker and reveals moderate use. All three jerseys have MLB Authentic/Majestic manufacturer’s labels with flag tags on the front left tail and all three uniforms come with three Steiner Sports Memorabilia LOAs.
