“Poosh ‘Em Up Tony” Lazzeri was an integral member of the New York Yankees famed “Murderer’s Row” batting order of the late 1920s, teaming with legendary sluggers Babe Ruth, Lou Gehrig, Earle Combs, Mark Koenig and Bob Meusel to form what is arguably most fearsome lineup in baseball history. A former boilermaker from San Francisco the Hall of Fame second sacker was the first player to hit two grand slams in one inning and derived his unique moniker from Italian countrymen’s mistranslation of an Italian phrase meaning to “hit it out [of the ballpark].” Lazzeri remains the only player to hit for a natural cycle (single, double, triple and home run in succession) culminating in a grand slam and was the American League’s starting second baseman in the inaugural All-Star Game of 1933. “Poosh ‘Em Up Tony” signed this Official American League Ernest Barnard ball (1927-1931) on a side panel in steel tip fountain pen with a “Best Wishes” inscription. Commissioner’s dating places the ball in the heart of the Yankees “Murderer’s Row” era. Lightly caramel toned ball displays signs of possible game use, contains remnants of additional writing on its south panel and comes with PSA LOA certification # Y01587.
