After a start to a career that seemed Hall of Fame-bound, McGwire hit hard times. His 1991 season was the worst he'd had since he turned pro. Deep soul-searching and intensive workouts preceded a career resurgence for McGwire in 1992. The slugger hit 42 home runs and led the A's to the AL West Championship. The Rawlings 256B model bat displays heavy use with a 13" handle crack. There are many ball marks with stitch impressions on the barrel along with bat rack paint streaks. The handle has a light coat of pine tar and Mac's number "Two Five" is hand written on the knob end. McGwire has signed the barrel in black marker between the center brand and barrel stamping. Letter of Authenticity from JSA and MEARS (308978) who have graded this bat A8.5.
