In 1947, over a decade removed from his life in baseball, Babe Ruth was approached by the Ford Motor Company to be a spokesman for their American Legion Junior Baseball Program. Ruth signed on with Ford, and on July 10th, 1947, he appeared at a luncheon held in his honor by the Houston Ford Dealers. This 4-page program from that luncheon features an illustration of Ruth on the front, below the headline “Welcome Babe”. Babe Ruth has signed this program on the front cover, in the top right corner. On the back page of the program, there is a pencil notation in an unknown hand reading “Signature of Babe Ruth collected on visit to Houston in 1947 – for Carolyn”. Program has a slight tear to spine. The program is accompanied by several pieces of promotional material from the Ford Motor Company. Included: a 5X7 photograph of Babe Ruth, titled Consultant, Ford Motor Company, American Legion Junior Baseball; a full page B&W ad announcing Babe Ruth as Ford’s consultant to the American Legion Junior Baseball Program; a full page B&W advertisement for a Babe Ruth appearance on June 19th at Sportsman’s Park in St. Louis; a 4-page advertisement (2 pages front and back) “Why the Ford Motor Company Chose The Sultan of Swat”, including a score card. In total, 5 items are featured here. The signed program is accompanied by a LOA from PSA
