Four National Baseball Hall of Famers and pioneering ballplayers from the professional game’s formative years; Connie Mack, George Sisler, “Kid” Nichols and Fred Clarke all signed this Worth Official League ball. Sisler, was a 15-year major league veteran who spent most of his career with the St. Louis Browns from 1915-1927, and hit a whopping .420 in his 1922 AL MVP season and held the record for most hits in a season (257 in 1920) until it was broken by Ichiro Suzuki in (262 in 2004). Sisler was inducted to the Hall of Fame in 1939. Charles “Kid” Nichols was a late 19th century star pitcher who recorded three consecutive seasons with 30 or more wins from 1896-1989 and tallied 361 career victories in 15 seasons. Nichols elected to the Hall by the Old Timers Committee in 1949 and died in 1953. Fred Clarke was a late 19th century and early 20th century star outfielder who racked up 2,678 hits with a .312 career batting average in 21 years most of them with the Pittsburgh Pirates from 1900-1915. And elder statesman and lifelong baseball man Connie Mack remains the longest serving manager in Major League history compiling the most wins and losses. We can speculate about where these men may have been gathered in one place to sign this ball, perhaps Cooperstown or if the signatures were acquired at the same time, but with the exception of Mack’s fading slightly on the sweet spot, they seem to have worn at a similar pace. Sisler and Clarke appear to have been signed with the same writing implement, a blue marker, Nichols could possibly be the same although his signatures is not as pronounced, Mack’s is also in blue marker but a lighter looking hue. If the signatures were acquired at the same time it would have to have been before Nichols’ death in 195. The ball contains caramel colored toning but is in decent condition with all manufacturers labeling fully intact and no blown stitches and comes with JSA LOA certification #Y31913.
