Allen played college football for the California Golden Bears, where he caught a school record 205 balls before declaring for the NFL draft after his junior year. The San Diego Chargers picked Allen in the 3rd round in 2013, and he immediately made his mark on the team. In his first year in the league, Allen set team rookie records for receptions (71) and receiving yards (1,046), while catching 8 touchdowns. He followed that up with another solid season in 2014, during which he caught 77 balls for 783 yards and 4 touchdowns.
