The late 20's and early 30's were baseball's Golden Era. While guys like Ruth and Gehrig were making headlines in New York, every team in both leagues had their own stars and this ball collects a baker's dozen worth of them. The sweet spot has been signed by Heinie Manush (9/10) in bold black fountain pen. The Senators star was talented enough at the plate that in 1926 he muscled aside all the Ruth's and Gehrig's to win the batting crown. Hit machines George Sisler (8/10) and Rogers Hornsby 7/10) have signed in blue. Ed Walsh (6/10), the White Sox superstar with the lowest career ERA in history (1.82!) has signed along with, Joe Sewell (9/10), George Uhle (9/10), Earl Whitehill (5/10), Bob Fothergill (3/10), George Burns (9/10), Red Kress (9/10), Sam Gray (9/10), and one other faded and illegible signature. Ed Walsh's son, Ed Jr., a pitcher with the White Sox from 1928-1932, has also signed the ball. The Spalding Official National League ball dates to the 1926-1934, a period each of the men on this ball were still active, with the exception of Ed Walsh, Sr. Most of the ball players on this ball were with the Cleveland Indians, St. Louis Browns and Chicago White Sox during the 1928-1932 period. The ball has a dark patina from a coat of shellack, but the signatures still display nicely on the warm colored surface. Letter of Authenticity from JSA.
