The 1960 World Series will always be known as one of baseball's most memorable season-ending contests. The Pittsburgh Pirates took the sport's grand prize with a dramatic home run by Bill Mazeroski, but his teammates all contributed to make that thrilling moment possible. Outstanding performances by Pirates stars Roberto Clemente, Harvey Haddix and Vernon Law were necessary to defeat the powerful New York Yankees team of Mantle, Maris, Berra and Ford. Overseeing every step of the hard-fought, seven-game event was a dutiful crew of six experienced Major League umpires, all of whom have placed their signatures on the surface of this visibly used, ONL (Giles) sphere taken from 1960 World Series play. Sadly, all of these gentlemen are now deceased. The ball’s fully legible and distinct, blue ballpoint signatures include: L.”Dusty” Boggess (1904-1968) and “Jim” Honochick (1917-1994) sharing the sweet spot, with the names of Johnny Stevens (1912-1981), Bill Jackowski (1914-1996), Nestor Chylak, Jr. (1922-1982, HOF 1999) and Stan Landes (1923-1994) appearing in side-panel locations. A very scarce and meaningful survivor from a storied Championship! LOA from JSA
