Charles Comiskey will always be remembered as the owner who allegedly inspired the White Sox to throw the 1919 World Series. Whether this is true or not is a matter of opinion, but Comiskey’s impact on the team from Chicago is without question. As owner of the ChiSox for 30 years, Comiskey saw 5 American League Pennants, 2 World Series titles, and built the stadium that would bear his name. He also oversaw some of the day to day operations of the club, as this rare, one-of-a-kind item seems to indicate. This letter dated May 7th, 1929 and addressed to Mr. Chas Stis of St. Louis, Missouri, details a payment made to Stis for expenses related to scouting efforts on behalf of the White Sox. It is typed on Chicago White Sox letterhead, and personally signed Chas a Comiskey. Also included is the envelope, containing the Chicago White Sox raised seal, addressed to Mr. Chas. Stis at the Montrose Hotel in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. The envelope is postmarked May 10, 1929, in Chicago, Illinois. The item is accompanied by a Letter of Authenticity from PSA/DNA.
