The owner of eight National League batting titles, the late Tony Gwynn stands second only to Ty Cobb (12) and is tied with fellow Hall of Famer Honus Wagner in that category. Undoubtedly one of the greatest hitters the game has ever seen, Gwynn wrapped up the last of his batting crowns in 1997, when he hit a remarkable .372 for the Padres. The Rawlings 279S model bat he used that year shows excellent use and is un-cracked. Several ball marks with stitch impressions are visible and there is the impression of a weightier batting donut. The handle and knob have been taped in a spiral pattern to enhance the grip. The model number "279S", order number "019" and year "97" have been stamped into the knob. The Padre's star has signed the bat's barrel in silver, making this the quintessential Tony Gwynn gamer. Letter of Authenticity from PSA/DNA (1B06539 & Z19916) who have graded this bat a GU 8.5.
