The St. Louis Cardinals have traditionally bought in former players to serve as instructors during spring training, and 2008 was no exception as Bob Gibson was in attendance. On March 17, with the St. Louis Cardinals “hosting” the Atlanta Braves at their spring training facility in Jupiter, FL, Gibson wore this jersey in his capacity as instructor. This size 48 St. Louis Cardinals jersey, sporting Gibson’s #45, is green with white side panels to recognize St. Patrick’s Day. Jersey is light weight, manufactured by Majestic using their Cool Base mesh fabric. The front of the jersey sports the well-known “Birds on the Bat” Cardinals logo across the chest, while lettering and numbers on the back are White on black lettering. The numeral 4 is signed by Bob Gibson, while the numeral 5 is inscribed “HOF 81”. Jersey comes with a LOA from the St. Louis Cardinals ballclub, stating that “this unique jersey was issued to and worn by the aforementioned instructor in Spring Training 2008 only on St. Patrick’s Day; March 17, 2008”. Also includes a COA from JSA, with Authentication sticker.
