Autograph Document Signed “David B. Crockett” on right half of 7.5” x 3.75” manuscript document. No place, January 18, 1833. Two related AdsS at the left signed by George N. Gibbs and A. Gibbs. On verso is a document signed “Robert Puckett,” October 22, 1827. Folds, light soiling. Fine condition. Puckett’s DS, in full, ”On or before the Twenty third day of March 1829 I promis [sic] to pay David Crocket Three hundred & Thirty Eight Dollars for value Recd of him as witness my hand & seal this 22d day of Octr 1827.” Attest “Jos. B. Dibull.” On verso is Crockett’s ADS: “I assign the Within note to George N. Gibbs and Garontee [sic] the payment and also the lien upon the land for the money. Jany 18th 1833.” ADS “G.N. Gibbs” who has also signed “J.B. Dibull,” in full, “Received of R Puckett by Geo. N. Gibbs Two hundred & Twenty five Dollars on this note this 31st Mch 1828” under which appears and ADS “A.Gibbs,” in full, “Credit of Twenty five Dollars and fifty cts this 2nd Sept 1834.” Davy Crocket had several first cousins named David Crockett after his grandfather. When he lived in Gibson Co., Tennessee, two other David Crocketts lived within 12 miles of him: David Crockett of Rutherford Co. and David B. Crocket, son of Davy’s uncle Robert. Davy’s father, John, and his uncles fought in the Revolutionary War in the Battle of Green Mountain. Goddspeed’s History of Tennessee (1887) lists a “Robert Puckett” settling near Lynn Point, Gibson County, in the 1820s.
