Printed Photograph with Typed Letter Signed “M Teresa MC” on verso, 1p, 4.25” x 3.5”. On paper. Calcutta, India, July 26, 1997. To Mr. A. S. Aruldass (in south India). Four tiny staple holes, staple rust stains, tear hole in center at date. Folds. Stamped “Missionaries of Charity” address in upper right of letter side. Fine condition. In full, “Thank you for your gift which helps us to bring love, joy and peace into the lives of our poor. May God love and reward you for your generosity and sharing in His work of love. Thank you also for your prayers offered for my health. I am much better now. I assure you and your dear ones of my prayers also. GOD BESS YOU,” Six weeks later, on September 5, 1997, Mother Teresa died. The 1.75” x 3” photograph depicts Mother Teresa with hands clasped in prayer. A quote is printed in the blank area to the right: “LOVE TO PRAY – feel often during the day the need for prayer and take trouble to pray. Prayer enlarges the heart until it is capable of containing God’s gift of Himself. Ask and seek, and your heart will grow big enough to receive Him and keep Him as your own.” On October 27, 1979, it was announced in Oslo that “the Norwegian Nobel Committee has awarded the Nobel Peace Prize for 1979 to Mother Teresa. Thirty years ago Mother Teresa left her teaching post at a Roman Catholic girls' school in Calcutta in order to devote her life to working among the poorest of the poor in the slums of that city…” This was part of a collection formed by A.S. Aruldass of Madurai and Tamil Nadu in south India.
