With his reputation as the most feared DH in the game today, it's hard to imagine that Big Papi was once struggling just to stay on a big league bench. Yet that is where Ortiz was in 1999, barely clinging on with the Minnesota Twins where he batted an anemic .000 in 25 plate appearances. Fortunately Ortiz kept plugging along and through relentless practice he emerged as one of the game's most ferocious hitters. The Louisville Slugger C243 model bat displays outstanding use and is un-cracked. The barrel exhibits severe checking from repeated ball contact, indicating that this bat was used by Ortiz for much-needed batting practice. A piece is missing from the barrel brand. Big Papi has signed and inscribed the bat's barrel. Letter of Authenticity (1B06527) from PSA/DNA.
