1980 came so close to being the perfect season for George Brett. For starters, his .390 batting average was the closest anyone has come to batting .400 since Ted Williams last did it in 1941. His stellar season at the plate resulted in his 2nd AL batting title and his only AL MVP award, and his Kansas City Royals advanced to play in the World Series for the first time in their history. KC would lose in 6 to Philadelphia that year, but in 1985 Brett and his Royals would take home their first World Series Championship. This baby blue Kansas City Royals button-down jersey reads Royals in script across the chest, above a small #5, with a Mitchell & Ness Cooperstown Collection manufacturer’s label on the lower left, above a smaller tag that reads 1985. The left sleeve bears an embroidered KC Royals Crown logo, while the back reads “Brett 5” in white felt letters. Brett has added his signature within the confines of the number. Jersey still has manufacturer’s tags attached to the interior neck tag. There appears to be a dirt smudge on the letter “a” in the Royals logo script on the front of the jersey, and some slight blue sharpie marking next to the name on the back. Item is accompanied by a COA from JSA.
