Autograph Poem and Notes unsigned on sides of a white airplane paper bag, 5” x 8.75”, 3” x 8.75” sides, 5” x 3” flat bottom. Closing tab at top. Shel Silverstein has written in pencil on the two larger sides and on the bottom and drawn a 1” x 0.75” head. Lightly soiled on the outside. One large side. In full, “(1) When Mrs. . (2) Said he / (3) Said she / (4) they found / (5) the birds / (6) Pregnant / (7) So Little.” Other large side. Three stanzas, first and third are crossed out by Shel Silverstein. Head of a bearded man, 1” x 0.75”, atop this side. [1st stanza] In full “And in a while the children born / They shouted on so gaily / Who thought that making love / Would make this lovely baby.” [2nd stanza] In full “So little boys & little girls / When you are men and ladies / theres nothing [s]that will be as sweet / you’ll find as sweet / that’s worth making more / than makin’ love and babies.” [3rd stanza] In full “She touched it’s face / He held her hand / And when it smiled / And as it came she said to him / there aint no ifs or maybes” last two couplets are each circled “theres nothin in this world as sweet / as makin love and babies / Said she to he How Can I thank you for / this lovely gift you gave me.” Bottom. In full “The Birds and Bees all fluttered round around they flew / And chirped & Buzzed so gaily / ‘So this is what the people do / For makin love and babies.’” Shel Silverstein has circled these four lines and written “OK.” Accompanied by the 50th Anniversary Edition of "The Giving Tree" by Shel Silverstein.
