The 1948 Yankees squad finished in third place. With a well-balanced offense the Yankees finished second in the American league in runs scored, home runs and batting average. “Joltin’ Joe” DiMaggio led the team with 39 home runs and a .320 batting average and “Ol’ Reliable” drove in a team-high 155 runs. The Yankees pitching staff’s 3.75 ERA was also second best in the league. Vic Raschi posted a 19-8 record with a 3.84 ERA . This Spalding (Reach) Official William Harridge American League ball is signed by 23 members of the Yankees 1948 team including Hall of Famers: DiMaggio, Yogi Berra and Phil Rizzuto. DiMaggio’s signature occupies the sweet spot while Yogi Berra signed with his actual first name “Larry” on the same side panel as Rizzuto. Other signatures include Henrich, Allie Reynolds, Tommy Byrne, Steve “Bud” Souchock, Charlie Keller, Snuffy Stirnweiss, Frank Crosetti, Cliff Mapes, Ralph Houk, Larry (Yogi) Berra, Gus Niarhos, Johnny Lindell, Sherm Lollar, Vic Raschi, Eddie Lopat, Hank Bauer, Joe Page, Bob Porterfield, Spec Shea, and future American League president Bobby Brown. All signatures are in blue ball point pen and most of the manufacturer’s labeling has worn off this off-white ball. “1947 Yankees” is inscribed on the opposite sweet spot in and unknown hand and ball comes with JSA LOA.
Please Note: This baseball was identified in the catalog as a 1947 team signed ball but in fact is a 1948 team baseball. The description and title have been amended to reflect that.
