While “The Iron Horse” Lou Gehrig was busy playing in 2,130 consecutive games since the day he replaced a slumping Wally Pipp on June 2, 1925 until he took himself out of the lineup on May 2, 1939, he did not take the time to sign as many balls as his more flamboyant teammate Babe Ruth making single signed and inscribed ball like the one offered here a rarer find. Gehrig, who played only a dozen or so games in the minor leagues with the Hartford Senators of the Eastern League while still a freshman at Columbia University, signed this Peerless Sporting Goods Minor League baseball on a side panel in black steel tip fountain pen grading (“6-7”)with a “Best Wishes” inscription. Red and blue stitched ball displays evidence of moderate use and slight toning with all manufacturers labeling intact and comes with JSA LOA certification #Y32685.
