It is amazing how good a hitter Al Simmons was considering he stepped "in the bucket" (away from home plate) on every pitch, with his nickname being "Bucketfoot Al." Despite this hitting fault, Simmons registered 2,927 career hits, including a high of 253 in 1925, which is fourth all-time for a single season. He hit .350 or better six times, and .390 or better twice. In 1938, Simmons was part of the Washington Senators and signed this ball "Al Simmons" on a side panel ("4") with the date "SEP 26 - 38" below. This date may or may not be in Simmons hand. However, further examination reveals several names and possibly a personalization have been removed from this well-worn baseball. Due to these long ago removals, this ball does display as a "Single-Signed" Al Simmons baseball. Full LOA from PSA/DNA, cert number Q09375.
